This half-day tour combines two important birding habitats located a short distance from Mérida. The morning begins near Misnébalam, an area of lowland forest, farmland, and seasonal wetlands that supports a high diversity of regional specialties such as Yucatán Jay, Orange Oriole, Yucatán Woodpecker, Black-throated Bobwhite, Gray-crowned Yellowthroat, and other characteristic species of northern Yucatán.
Afterwards, the tour continues to the coastal wetlands and estuary of Progreso, where flamingos, herons, egrets, terns, sandpipers, and other shorebirds can be observed. Depending on conditions and timing, the route may also include nearby coastal dune habitats in search of endemic species such as Yucatán Wren, Mexican Sheartail, and Yucatán Gnatcatcher.
The tour is designed to fit comfortably within a morning schedule and usually returns to Mérida around 11:00 am.
